Intent and Purpose of the Education of Migratory Children Program – Title I, Part C
Goal of the MEP
The goal of the MEP is to assist all migrant students in meeting challenging academic standards and achieving graduation from high school (or a High School Equivalency program) with an education that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment.
ESC Region 9 receives some additional funding from the Texas Education Agency to provide technical assistance and training to districts in support of migrant program services. Some of these services include identification and recruitment of eligible migrant students and families including out of school youth, quality control of migrant related PEIMS data elements and corresponding New Generation System data, and validation of Certificates of Eligibility for migrant students and families.
These state services are provided at no cost to districts.
Every district campus should include the Family Survey or the equivalent in their enrollment packet as well as returning student packets to aid in the identification and recruitment process.
