Region 9 is proud to announce that Mr. Colin Howeth, Superintendent of Knox City-O’Brien CISD, has been selected as the 2025 Region 9 Superintendent of the Year. Mr. Howeth was nominated for this honor by the Knox City-O’Brien CISD Board of Trustees.
In their nomination, Board President Clint Lewis praised Mr. Howeth’s leadership, writing, “Colin has an incredible ability to bring people together and create a positive, student-focused culture. Under his leadership, our district has grown into a place where teachers feel valued, students are supported, and parents are engaged.”
The board highlighted Mr. Howeth’s commitment to empowering educators, building strong community partnerships, and making ethical, student-centered decisions. Mr. Lewis added, “...(the) combination of understanding and ethical decision making has created trust within our board and community and is one of the things that makes him such an asset to our district.”
Mr. Howeth will go on to represent Region 9 in the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) program, which has recognized excellence in public school leadership since 1984. Regional winners from across the state will be interviewed by the TASB State Selection Committee in August, with five finalists advancing to the final round of interviews. The state winner will be announced at txEDCON (Texas Association of School Administrators/Texas Association of School Boards Convention), held September 11–14, 2025, in Houston.
