Students from across Region 9 recently showcased their knowledge of U.S. history, government, and civic engagement in the High School Regional Texas Citizen Bee. This annual competition challenges students to demonstrate their understanding of the Constitution, landmark court cases, historical figures, and significant events.
The competition began with a 35-question written test on Day 1. The top 10 scorers advanced to the final rounds, where they competed in three verbal rounds covering the Constitution, Documents/Court Cases, and People/Events.
🥇 1st Place – Mitchell Roberts, Burkburnett High School ($250) – State Qualifier
🥈 2nd Place – Michael Gandy, WF Memorial High School ($100)
🥉 3rd Place – Morgan Snay, Burkburnett High School ($50) (2nd-year competitor, 2nd year in the Top 3!)
A huge thank you to all the students who participated and to the dedicated school sponsors who supported them throughout the competition:
Matthew Maldonado – WF Legacy High School
Crystal Krueger – WF Memorial High School
Kimbra Thomas – Burkburnett High School
We also extend our gratitude to @texaslre for supporting the regional coordinators and to the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation for sponsoring this incredible opportunity for students.
As the regional champion, Mitchell Roberts will represent Region 9 at the state competition in April. He, along with his sponsor and a parent, will travel to Austin for the prestigious Capitol Experience, where he will tour the Texas State Capitol, meet state representatives, and compete for a chance to win up to $5,000!
Best of luck to Mitchell as he prepares for the state competition—we know he will make Region 9 proud!
