Burkburnett ISD Board of Trustees has been honored as one of only five finalists for the prestigious 2024 Outstanding School Board award by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). This recognition is part of TASA’s annual School Board Awards program, which celebrates Texas school boards for their exceptional commitment to student success and community service.
Exemplary Leadership and Community Engagement
The Burkburnett ISD Board of Trustees stood out among many for their strong governance, with five of the seven trustees achieving master trustee status—an indication of their unwavering dedication to effective leadership. The board’s close ties to the community, particularly their support for military-connected students, were also highlighted. With Burkburnett’s proximity to Sheppard Air Force Base, the district has shown exemplary commitment, with all six campuses receiving the Purple Star designation for supporting military families.
Superintendent Brad Owen, who nominated the board, expressed his pride: "The BISD school board is progressive and courageous in their view and belief of true student learning. The board challenges the district to find customizable ways to educate ALL students and to assess that learning through various avenues that reflect a true measure of student knowledge and abilities."
Path to the Final Award
As a finalist, the Burkburnett ISD Board of Trustees is in the running for TASA’s highest honor: the 2024 Outstanding School Board award. The final decision will be made following interviews at the TASA | TASB Convention in San Antonio on September 27, 2024. This marks the second time Burkburnett ISD has reached this level of recognition, having previously been named a Texas Honor Board in 2010.
We congratulate the Burkburnett ISD Board of Trustees on this significant achievement and look forward to their continued success as they represent Region 9 in the final round of the competition.
