The information below is revised from the October 29, 2020 version. Ten additional campuses met the qualifying criteria and were awarded the Purple Star Designation (see campus names noted in bold below). Other typographical errors were corrected and noted in bold. 

The Purple Star Campus Designation, a special honor created by the 86th Texas Legislature through SB 1557, recognizes Texas school district and open-enrollment charter school campuses that show their support and commitment to meeting the unique needs of military connected students and their families. 

For the first time ever, TEA accepted applications for the 2020-2021 school year from June 10, 2020 through August 28, 2020 for campuses to apply and demonstrate they have met the established criteria: 

1. Designate a campus-based military liaison 
2. Create and maintain an easily accessible web page that includes information for military-connected students and their families 
3. Must have a campus transition program 
4. Offer at least one of the following initiatives:
   • A resolution showing support for military-connected students and families; 
   • Participation in Month of the Military Child or Military Family Month; or 
   • Partnership with a school liaison officer to encourage and provide opportunities for active duty military members
